Water Utilities Consulting

With the arrival of AMP8 and recent market developments, Water Utilities in the UK have embarked on a transformation journey that focuses on sustainability (fewer pollution incidents, green energy powered water treatment etc.), reliable infrastructure(fewer flooding incidents, leakages etc.), customer centricity (affordable bills, enhanced customer experience), social responsibility(support for vulnerable customers), and most importantly disruption from innovative competitors entering the marketplace.

Cognizant has multiple engagements with water utilities in the UK where we are utilising our capabilities in data science and digital enablement to help them lead this transformation through new offerings, solutions and innovative business models that are aligned to the market trends and regulatory commitments. We are looking for experienced business analysts/consultants/product owners who are passionate about making a difference for our clients in the energy and utilities domain. Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled Business Analyst with expertise in field services, water operations, and data analytics to support business process improvements, system implementations, and operational efficiencies. This role involves collaborating with stakeholders, analyzing data, and optimizing workflows to enhance service delivery and asset management within water utility operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Business Analysis & Process Improvement
  • Analyze and document business processes related to field services and water operations to identify inefficiencies and areas for improvement.
  • Work with operations, engineering, and IT teams to develop solutions that enhance service delivery and asset performance.
  • Gather and document business requirements for system upgrades, process automation, and reporting enhancements.
  • Assist in the development and deployment of work management, asset management, and SCADA systems to improve operational effectiveness.

Data Analysis & Reporting

  • Analyze operational data from field service teams, sensors, and SCADA systems to identify trends and areas for optimization.
  • Develop dashboards and reports using tools like Power BI, SQL, or GIS to provide actionable insights.
  • Work with data teams to improve data collection, integration, and governance strategies for accurate decision-making.
  • Support the implementation of predictive analytics for maintenance planning and efficiency improvements.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration & Technology Integration
  • Act as a liaison between field operations, IT, finance, and executive leadership to ensure alignment on business needs.
  • Support the adoption and training of new technologies and mobile applications for field technicians.
  • Work with software vendors to configure and test workforce management, GIS, and asset management systems.
  • Assist in change management efforts, ensuring smooth transitions for system and process improvements.

Desirable skills and experience

  • Experience as a Business Analyst in field services, utilities, or water operations.
  • Strong understanding of water utility operations, asset management, and field workforce processes.
  • Experience working with data analytics, reporting, and visualization tools (Power BI, SQL, Excel, GIS, etc.).
  • Proficiency in business process modeling, requirements gathering, and stakeholder management.
  • Experience with work order management, SCADA, or CMMS (e.g., Maximo, SAP PM) or field services (e.g., Salesforce FSL, SAP FSM)
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements for water utilities and industry best practices.
  • Experience with IoT, telemetry, or predictive maintenance technologies in field services.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud) and data integration.
  • Certification in Business Analysis (CBAP, CCBA).
